‘Good Day’ Release & Your EDM

After a successful release of the first single from their upcoming album LOS AMSTERDAM–due out April 7 on Mad Decent–YELLOW CLAW released yesterday (2/28) a lyric video for “Good Day” (featuring DJ Snake and Elliphant).

Premiered on Your EDM, Jeffrey Yau says of “Good Day,” “The track stands out for its more restrained and melodic elements, similar to “Love & War” which separates it from the Yellow Claw sound of old. The intro kicks off with the same aggressive Yellow Claw percussion, albeit toned down, before we hit a quintessentially ‘DJ Snake’ styled drop. If that’s not enough, the outro takes an unexpected orchestral turn with a chorus of strings ushering us out the door.”

Personal Thoughts

As soon as it begins, “Good Day” sets the tone. The vocodor style lines in the intro, reminiscent of Daft Punk, bring a refreshing contrast to Elliphant’s main vocals. Lyrically-wise this song was written fantastically, and “Good Day” has a hook that’ll take days to get out of your head, if you choose to ;). The song casually builds energy and flows naturally from each section, showing off good taste and maintains that catchy, head nodding rhythm throughout. Lastly, mirroring Jeffrey Yau, from Your EDM, the orchestral section was a very welcome surprise. Personally, I had a meerkat-style head turn towards the speaker when the section began, which is always the sign of good music.
